Event Scheduling Poll
Would you like to attend a CMU 2010 event hosted by the Communications Committee, but cannot fit it into your busy schedule? Are there certain days that are just too hectic? Please take a few seconds and fill out our two-second/two-question Event Scheduling Poll. We would love your input as we plan our events.
Project Discussion Board
A discussion board has been created to facilitate collaborative efforts across campus in an electronic medium. We encourage you to submit your ideas to help bring folks out that may have a proposal similar to your own. You can access this board using your global id. We encourage you to check in periodically to see what kind of great ideas are being shared, and how your unit/department might be able to participate. As an added feature, you can also request an alert to notify you when others respond to your posted idea.
New! iTunesU - CMU 2010 Podcasts Available
In an attempt to reach a larger population, CMU 2010 now plans to offer podcasts on the CMU section of iTunesU. iTunes makes it easy to download and listen to updates at your convenience. To listen to (or view the video for) the Open Forum presented in January 2008, follow the link here. If you choose, you can subscribe to our podcast so that you will be notified via email when new CMU 2010 information is posted.
Open Forum & Other Dates to Remember
If you missed the last Open Forum held in January, you can still view that event by watching our QuickTime video, thanks to FaCIT. For best viewing, we encourage you to use Firefox. We hope to infuse more technology into our future update information as well.
In addition, the ComCom has scheduled our next Open Forum which will emphasize the KPIs, targets, and how we're doing. We also plan to discuss what strategic thinking and planning means for CMU, a brief update on current CMU 2010 events, and how you can be a positive influence on our measures of strategic progress. Opening remarks by ISPC Co-Chairs Dr. Julia Wallace, Executive Vice President/Provost, and Dr. Catherine Riordan, Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, will introduce this public event. Light refreshments will be provided.
- Open Forum - March 20, 2008 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM (Park Library 413D, FaCIT Training Room)
- RFP Announcement for FY09 - April 2008
- Fireside Chat - April 2008
KPIs
The following KPI has been updated with FY08 data.
Spotlight on Strengthening CMU's Interdisciplinary Programs
In an effort to begin strengthening Interdisciplinary Programs at CMU (an FY08-funded project related to Priority I, Teaching and Learning), Anne Miller was recently hired as a part-time Assistant Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Programs in the Academic Affairs office. With her, she brings a strong skill set, including valuable marketing and communication professional experience. Since her arrival in December, Anne has worked with Denise Webster, Director of Curriculum & Assessment, to create a Communications Plan for 2008 through 2010 and has begun promoting the philosophy of interdisciplinary learning and the value of learning across academic disciplines.
Their initiative is to "establish coordinated support to strengthen learning, advising and enrollments in existing Interdisciplinary programs." (pg 1, Communications Plan) The first step is to increase awareness among current and prospective students by informing them of CMU's portfolio of interdisciplinary programs. At this year's freshman pre-orientation, Denise and Anne created a presence for Interdisciplinary Programs using a poster, flyer, program listing handout and took part in many one-on-one conversations with prospective students and their parents.
A major component of Anne's job will be to develop strong collaborative relations with various units on campus. Thus far, Anne has utilized the assistance generously offered by several units, including Admissions, Academic Advising, Public Relations and Marketing, Career Services, First Year Experience, Honors Program, Leadership Institute, and Residential Colleges. If you or your office would like to help in this effort, please email Anne Miller.
Upcoming projects include: the development of an interdisciplinary program presence on CMU's Web site geared toward students exploring majors, minors and graduate programs; preparing for Freshman and Transfer Academic Orientations; and developing an interdisciplinary program umbrella brochure that will have multiple uses campus-wide. For further information on the other new and exciting plans for interdisciplinary programs, visit the 2008-2010 Communications Plan.
While the foundational work is being completed, a position remains vacant for the Coordinator of Interdisciplinary Programs. The Office of Academic Affairs is seeking a faculty or staff member to act as a primary interface with the interdisciplinary faculty members to move this project forward. All individuals interested in this role are encouraged to contact Denise Webster at x7714 or webst1dl@cmich.edu.
How to Become a Spotlight Project
Since July 2006, we have included "Spotlights" on several projects that are helping CMU 2010 move forward. To share your success with the CMU community, please email CMU2010@cmich.edu. Feel free to identify the month you would like to be featured and a short summary of progress or list of highlights to be displayed. We are more than willing to assist you in documenting your spotlight, so you may provide the name of a contact person and the best way to reach this person for a short interview as an alternative. We are very grateful for those that volunteer! Thank you.
