Progress Report - January 2009
Next Strategic Plan
Open Forums
Based on the open meetings that took place in the fall, combined with all the online anonymous feedback we received from the website, six emerging strategic directions were identified. During the month of February, we plan to describe the emerging strategic directions and offer a context and rationale for why these are appropriate for CMU at two open meetings:
Here we will We hope you can join us for this next round of development. In the open forums, we'll discuss with you the compiled ideas that have been formulated by members of the ISPC using campus-wide feedback. We'll then request your input and fine-tune the strategic directions to represent CMU's needs. If you are planning to attend one of these meetings, we ask that your RSVP through Human Resources at x6447 or by emailing StratOD@cmich.edu. If you plan to attend our February 13th Open Forum, please RSVP no later than 5 pm on Thursday, February 12.
If you cannot attend either of these campus-wide open forums, please review our list of Special Focus Meetings, where members of the ISPC plan to bring the Beyond 2010 conversation to a group of folks already planning to meet. We would be willing to schedule a Special Focus Meeting if you have 10 or more individuals would would like to learn about Beyond 2010. Please schedule this with the Academic Affairs office (x3631) by emailing CMU2010@cmich.edu. Finally, we continue to take input from our online form if you cannot attend any session listed.
More information on the planning process, including a timeline of events that are planned for the rest of this semester, feedback from the fall open meetings, and the Emerging Strategic Directions position papers (for more information, see below), is available on our Beyond 2010 website.
Position Papers on Emerging Strategic Directions
The ISPC presenters at the upcoming open meetings have been working with individuals on campus over the last few weeks to further develop these emerging strategic directions, linking them to ongoing initiatives on campus and meeting with various campus "experts" in each area. The idea behind the position paper is to lay the foundation and provide a context for these strategic directions and why they are important at CMU. They will assist people who are not familiar with the strategic plan to see the connections that have been made through the open meetings in the fall, the external environment, and other situational factors CMU will likely face over the next five years. The first drafts (and ideas being brought forward at this time) will be posted on the Emerging Strategic Directions webpage as they become available. They will all be posted for your review no later than February 11 for your review prior to attending the Open Forums.
Summary of 2008 Website Traffic
In August 2008, Academic Affairs began using Google Analytics (refer to the October update for details - http://planning.cmich.edu/Updates/October2008.shtml) to track the number of visitors viewing our CMU 2010 website over time. As you can see in the chart below, it appears the majority of our visitors came to the site in September and October. These results are not surprising, since there was a flurry of activity surrounding the next strategic plan going on at that time, including a variety of open meetings being scheduled.
