At this Chat, we will assist you in developing your CMU 2010 Vision Fund proposal following the FY10 Request for Proposals announcement. This Fireside Chat will be very different from those prior, as we focus more on getting started and less on ways to collaborate across campus. If you may be interested in hands-on help as you begin compiling your proposal, we encourage you to join us!
*Note: Space and computers are limited, so you please RSVP by Monday, April 14th. Contact CMU2010 for details.
KPIs
No KPIs have been updated with FY08 data this month.
Related Measures
As we continue to collected data for the Key Performance Indicators, we should also be tracking other measures that may be related indicators of success. We refer to this group of measures as the CMU 2010 Related Measures associated with each Priority. Ideally, we plan to link each Related Measure with a KPI. This fluid list has not yet been approved by our campus leaders as finalized measures, but we will continue to collect data and grow this list as the data becomes available. Please keep in mind that not all measures have data, nor will they all remain on the list. Others may also be added as necessary.

Spotlight on Advanced Materials Research
For a group of faculty in the Advanced Materials Research Initiative (AMR), 2010 funding has enabled work across disciplinary boundaries to engage students, has supported publicity about on-going CMU materials research, and provided dedicated time for faculty to develop requests for major external funding to expand research programs.
Funding from the 2010 program currently supports:
-
2 research fellowships for graduate students
-
9 course release awards for faculty to work on major grant proposals to support materials-related research
-
Campus visits by 14 nationally-recognized experts in materials research for seminar presentations and meetings with faculty
-
Recruitment efforts, including mailings, advertisements, and individual faculty contacts, to attract students interested in pursuing materials research at the master’s or doctoral level
These interdisciplinary efforts through CMU 2010 also coincide with the establishment of the doctoral program in the Science of Advanced Materials, which will raise CMU’s national prominence both in leading edge research in a critical area and in providing a high quality educational program. Applications are being evaluated for the inaugural class of students beginning in Fall 2008.
A recent overview of the AMR project is available in a PowerPoint presentation.
Thank you to Jessica Lapp, Coordinator of AMR, and Dr. Brad Fahlman, project leader and professor of chemistry, for sharing this information with the campus community. We look forward to your continued efforts as you strive for national prominence!
How to Become a Spotlight Project
Since July 2006, we have included "Spotlights" on several projects that are helping CMU 2010 move forward. To share your success with the CMU community, please email CMU2010@cmich.edu. Feel free to identify the month you would like to be featured and a short summary of progress or list of highlights to be displayed. We are more than willing to assist you in documenting your spotlight, so you may provide the name of a contact person and the best way to reach this person for a short interview as an alternative. We are very grateful for those that volunteer! Thank you.
Event Scheduling Poll
Would you like to attend a CMU 2010 event hosted by the Communications Committee, but cannot fit it into your busy schedule? Are there certain days that are just too hectic? Please take a few seconds and fill out our two-second/two-question Event Scheduling Poll. We would love your input as we plan our events.
