Open Forum
Please join us on October 17th from 2-3:30 in the Park Library Auditorium for a CMU 2010 Open Forum! Featured topics include an overview of our eighteen chosen KPIs and how they were established. We also plan to suggest ideas for CMU 2010 participation on all levels within the university, and would like to facilitate a brainstorming session for participants to use critical thinking to find their role in the Vision. At this time, we will also answer questions regarding the RFP process, introduce our websites, discuss proposal ideas, and promote other events we plan to use to spread awareness of CMU 2010 - Fireside Chats.
Spotlight on the Coordinator for K-12 Leadership Development Position
The funding of the CMU 2010 position, Coordinator for K-12 Leadership Development - one of the only positions of its kind throughout the nation, has proved to be a great success within the first year of implementation. The funding has offered an increased number of opportunities to the Mount Pleasant community and state of Michigan and has transformed the Leadership Institute by executing its second Phase – the development of upcoming generations of student leaders. Some of the major advances and highlights of the past year include:
- The creation of unique experiences for CMU students to demonstrate their leadership abilities through the facilitation of leadership development programs
- Educating approximately 2,000 of Michigan’s K-12 students in areas of leadership (including teamwork, communication, ethics, and goal-setting) through distinctive activities and initiatives
- An opportunity for teacher education undergraduates to work within the K-12 setting, allowing for hands-on career experience prior to graduation
- An increased number of K-12 schools within the community and state making a direct connection with CMU and the Leadership Institute
- The launching of an undergraduate facilitator training program where 120 Central Michigan University students gained instruction and experience in proper facilitation and group instruction techniques
The inception of the Coordinator for K-12 Leadership Development position, along with the continued success of the leadership development programs, have allowed for significant growth toward the university’s goals of national prominence and recognition in the area of public service.
How to Become a Spotlight Project
Over the past few months, we have included "Spotlights" on several of the Vision Plan funded projects. To share your success with the CMU community, please email CMU2010@cmich.edu. Feel free to identify the month you would like to be featured and a short summary of progress or list of highlights to be displayed. We are more than willing to assist you in documenting your spotlight, so you may provide the name of a contact person and the best way to reach this person for a short interview as an alternative. We are very grateful for those that volunteer early! Thank you.
