Details about each proposal are below
Copyright - Education and Electronic Reserve (201009)
This project will provide copyright education and pay fees so that that copyright law would be defined through education and training; CMU copyright standards for the interpretation of Fair Use would be firmly established and publicized; and faculty can model respect for the intellectual property of others.
Latin American - Latino Initiative
(201001)
This is a multidimensional project involving recruitment, faculty development and campus environment, all directed at increased Latin American and Latino presence on campus, as reflected by number of students and campus ambiance.
Remote Support Automation in the Online
Learning Environment
(201010)
As CMU continues expansion into the online environment, the learning experience becomes dependent on the personally owned computer. This proposal seeks to implement automated remote support tools, within the existing support infrastructure, to bring students and faculty around the world the same support experience as local students and faculty.
Leaping ahead by Laser (201016)
A group of faculty from geology, biology, and chemistry will purchase a laserablation system to accompany a newly acquired ICP-mass spectrometer. The instrument would enable cutting-edge research in fields such as ecological and environmental investigations, materials science research, and mineral resource studies, as well as improve student research.
(201017)
In order to provide more opportunities for CMU students to talk about diversity, the Office for Institutional Diversity aims to adapt the University of Michigan intergroup dialogue program model for CMU with two underlying goals: 1) to increase cultural competency among CMU students and 2) to increase their ability to communicate cross-culturally and across diverse groups, e.g. race and gender. A program of this nature would complement the current diversity curriculum in the University Program and related diversity majors/minors, while enhancing students’ skills and knowledge. This is a collaborative effort between Institutional Diversity and a cadre of CMU faculty. Three special topics courses in communications will be developed and piloted over a three year period, starting with the first offering in Fall 2009, to develop the foundation for the program. Pre and Post test instruments will be used to measure increased cultural competency.
The CMU Research Infrastructure Tool
(201007)A web-based Research Infrastructure Tool will be developed that will include resources and services available at and through CMU that support research and creative endeavors. The resources will be mapped to the lifecycle of a research project, facilitating their use by faculty, staff, and students conducting research.
