Priority I
Create an environment that supports teaching and learning as the top priority.
Central Michigan University’s Mission and Core Values emphasize quality undergraduate and graduate academic programs; this first priority commits the university to focus its decision-making on teaching and learning. Creating this environment calls for the University to raise expectations for students, faculty and staff, both inside and outside of the classroom. These heightened expectations reinforce our mission of preparing students for meaningful careers and professions, lifelong learning and civic responsibility. It calls for the University to strengthen academic standards and improve the quality and rigor of our General Education Program; to provide our students personalized attention, to provide our faculty and staff opportunities to develop innovative curricula and pedagogies; to create opportunities for students to synthesize, integrate and apply knowledge; and to develop policies for and commit resources to attracting well-qualified and well-prepared students, faculty and staff.
