Priority III
Enhance the infrastructure for research and creative activity.
CMU recognizes the importance of research and creative activity to the quality of the education it provides to graduate and undergraduate students, the resources to which it has access at the state and federal levels, its ability to attract faculty and graduate students, and a national reputation. To support scholarship in all disciplines, a stronger infrastructure will be developed that includes the opportunity for greater time and resources to be devoted to scholarship and the expansion of policies and programs supportive of scholarship. To increase CMU national prominence, each year one or more programs will be identified for focused investment to strengthen the level of research or creative activity.
Strategy 1:
Identify for targeted investment, programs of research and creative activity with greatest potential to achieve national prominence.
Strategy 2:
Achieve a level of funding that reflects the status of the university as a research intensive institution.
Strategy 3:
Support greater flexibility with respect to faculty responsibilities.
Strategy 4:
Increase the engagement
of students in research and creative
activity at the undergraduate level.
