Expert kicks off discussion on teaching effectiveness
|
Laurie Richlin, a nationally known scholar in the area of teaching evaluation in universities, gave a two-day presentation called “Measuring Teaching Effectiveness.” The March program received $5,000 in CMU 2010 funding.
Richlin is an expert in assessment, the scholarship of teaching and learning, and measuring teaching effectiveness.
She discussed how the future of teaching involves moving from a teaching paradigm to a learning paradigm, which focuses on learning and student-success outcomes, expanding learning technologies, and taking a more holistic approach.
“The 2010 funding was instrumental in bringing her to campus to start this very important discussion about multiple measures of teaching effectiveness,” said Todd Zakrajsek, director of the Faculty Center for Innovative Teaching.
“To create an environment that supports teaching and learning as the top priority, we must know what constitutes good teaching and learning and find a solid method to measure that activity.
“This will lead to better learning for our students and recognition for those who really are delivering exceptional learning opportunities at CMU.” |
