Syllabus Survey for Diversity Curriculum

The Multicultural Diversity Education Council (MDEC), along with the International Education Committee, reviewed master course syllabi in order to discern the level to which CMU students are asked to think about issues related to diversity and global perspectives.

They were awarded $3,000 in CMU 2010 funds for the project.

“Graduate students hired for this project looked at course objectives, learning outcomes, reading assignments, and whether students were required to attend events outside of the classroom,” said Ulana Klymyshyn, director of CMU’s Multicultural Education Center.

“MDEC is planning to submit a preliminary report on diversity content, and next year we will follow up with a review of actual teaching syllabi to see how closely the content corresponds with master syllabi.”
