Members of CMU’s Steering Committee for Studying General Education will attend the Association of American Colleges and Universities Institute on General Education in Washington, D.C., in June.
Their attendance at the institute is funded by $7,840 in CMU 2010 FY06 monies under the teaching and learning priority.
“The Steering Committee for Studying General Education at CMU is reviewing our general education program with an eye to providing the best educational experience we can for our students. The current program was developed nearly 30 years ago, and much has changed in that time,” said Jane Matty, geology professor and chairwoman of the committee.
“The committee has collected evidence indicating that the program should be improved and is now looking at options for creating a better general education program.”
The institute offers sessions on strategies for successful curricular change, building a campus learning culture, and advancing campus projects on general education.
“We feel that the institute will be extremely helpful as the steering committee and CMU work to reinvigorate our general education program,” Matty said.
