Speaker addresses recruitment and retention
|
|
In order to evaluate CMU’s recruitment and retention of faculty and staff from under-represented groups, the university brought to campus Bob Laird, a nationally known expert in the area of minority student enrollment, to speak, meet with campus groups, and prepare a report on diversity recruiting efforts.
CMU 2010 allocated $4,500 for Laird’s visit.
Laird, who wrote The Case for Affirmative Action in University Admissions, also examined CMU’s diversity admission/enrollment efforts and offered guidance for increasing these numbers.
During his keynote speech and open forum, Laird drew on his extensive experience and advocacy for affirmative action in university admissions to provide insight and a broad picture of the issues.

National expert Bob Laird shared his
thoughts on affirmative action in university
admissions during an April visit funded by
CMU 2010.
