Curriculum Planning Conference for
Expanded Joint M.A./Ph.D. Program in History

In June, a joint planning conference will bring together representatives of CMU’s history department and their counterparts from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, Erasmus University in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany.
About $22,000 in CMU 2010 FY06 funds made the conference possible.
Members will explore and negotiate curricular and mechanical details of an expanded joint M.A./Ph.D. program.
“Our joint M.A./Ph.D. program with the University of Strathclyde has effectively doubled the size of our graduate faculty and given students unique opportunities for a transnational graduate education over the past 13 years,” said history professor Timothy Hall.
“We are very excited about the new possibilities an expanded joint program holds, both for our students and those who will be coming to us from partner institutions. A vibrant consortium among these partner institutions will not only internationalize the graduate curriculum in history, but will open broader opportunities for collaboration among faculty across the partner universities and for exchanges at undergraduate as well as graduate levels.”
