DEFINITION - KPI 7
CMU 2010 supports cultural diversity and global perspectives by recruiting and retaining minority1 staff as well as faculty members.
The percentage of minority staff members on campus remained relatively stable from FY05 (7.2%) to FY07 (6.8%), although following a downward trend. Percentages of staff for underrepresented groups in each fiscal year represent both on- and off-campus staff members. Although this KPI will be difficult to improve given our geographic location and candidate pool, we are striving to bring more diverse staff members to campus where possible. It is worth mentioning that not only is recruitment important, but retention is as well.
This percentage is based on minority staff headcount to total staff headcount, regardless of appointment (full-time or part-time).
1 Minority is defined as individuals that are of African American, Native American/Alaskan Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, and/or Hispanic origin.
Additional Clarifications:
-
Although our KPI label suggests "underrepresented groups", we are actually referring to those in minority groups in the definition of this KPI. Changes to label or data definition will be modified once a decision is reached.
-
New data should be available around Aug./Sept. each year.
