KPI 14 - External Grants and Contracts
External Grants and Contracts in Support of Research is a measure at CMU that:

Includes all research-related grants and contracts received by both CMU and the CMU-RC (CMU-Research Corporation, a non-profit corporation under the control of CMU engaged in applied research and economic development)

Follows this definition for "Research": includes activities specifically organized to produce research outcomes; that is, new knowledge or a fuller scientific understanding of the subject being studied.

CMU's goal is to increase external grants and contracts to $4.84 million awarded by 2010.
